Concord vs Shopify B2B: when a consumer store adds wholesale, and when wholesale is the business

Self-service dealer ordering + credit-limit enforcement + automatic per-product, per-state tax — standalone, or above your ERP via API-based integration. Not a DMS. Not a SFA.

Shopify now includes its core B2B features on every paid plan, which makes it a strong choice for brands that sell mainly to consumers and add wholesale on the side. Concord is built for businesses where dealers and trade accounts are the main channel, with credit limits and tax enforced on every order.

The short answer

Shopify B2B is likely the better fit if you…

  • Sell mainly to consumers and are adding wholesale as a second channel
  • Already run your store on Shopify and want B2B in the same admin
  • Have a handful of wholesale price lists rather than one per account
  • Want the Shopify app ecosystem, themes and payments for both channels

Concord is likely the better fit if you…

  • Sell mainly to dealers, distributors or trade accounts
  • Run prices that differ account by account, including prices agreed with individual customers
  • Extend credit and want over-limit orders held for approval, without adding a separate app
  • Need your sales team's discounts held to price floors and per-rep limits
  • Want ordering that runs on its own or sits above your ERP

Will Shopify's B2B features cover you?

Three questions decide most of it. Answer them for your business.

How many different wholesale price lists do you run?
When a customer orders past their credit limit, what should happen?
Where does most of your revenue come from?

Where the difference shows up

For a consumer brand, wholesale on Shopify is a natural extension: same products, same admin, a few price lists for stockists. That works well while wholesale stays a side channel.

When dealers and trade accounts become the main business, the questions change. Hundreds of accounts each expect their own price. Most buy on credit. Finance wants every order checked against a limit, and sales wants room to negotiate without giving away margin. Concord is built around those questions rather than adding to a storefront.

Keeping Shopify for consumers, moving trade ordering to Concord

You don't have to replace a Shopify store that works. You can keep it for consumers and run dealer and trade ordering on Concord, or run both channels on Concord with separate dealer and retail prices.

Concord vs Shopify B2B: common questions

Is Concord a Shopify B2B alternative?

For businesses where dealers and trade accounts are the main channel, yes. Concord is built for B2B ordering with prices per account, credit limits checked on every order and tax applied automatically. If you're mainly a consumer brand adding wholesale on the side, Shopify's B2B features may be all you need.

Is Shopify good for B2B?

For many brands, yes. Since April 2026 Shopify includes company profiles, up to three custom catalogs, volume pricing, quantity rules and payment terms on every paid plan, with unlimited catalogs, partial payments and deposits on Plus. It suits consumer brands adding wholesale. Businesses with a price per account, heavy credit sales or strict approval rules often need more than the core features.

Do I need Shopify Plus for B2B?

Not for the core features. According to Shopify, company profiles, up to three custom catalogs, volume discounts, quantity rules, stored cards and payment terms are on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Shopify Plus is needed for unlimited catalogs, assigning catalogs directly to companies and locations, partial payments and deposits.

Can Shopify B2B enforce credit limits?

Shopify includes net payment terms and payment reminders. Per-company credit limits that block checkout when a company goes over are offered by third-party apps in the Shopify App Store. In Concord, credit limits are built in, and an order that would breach the limit is held and routed to an approver rather than blocked.

How many price lists can each platform handle?

Shopify's Basic, Grow and Advanced plans include up to three custom B2B catalogs, assigned through Markets; Plus removes that cap and lets you assign catalogs to individual companies. Concord supports contract, tier, volume and region pricing, plus prices agreed with individual accounts, so each customer can have their own price.

Can we keep Shopify for consumers and use Concord for trade orders?

Yes. You can keep your Shopify store for consumers and run dealer and trade ordering on Concord. Concord can also carry a separate dealer price and retail price on the same product if you'd rather run both channels in one place.

Does Concord calculate tax automatically?

Yes. You set a tax category on each product and the rates for each state you ship to, and Concord applies the right tax when the order is placed. The invoice shows one combined tax amount; more detailed tax breakups are configured to your setup.

Do we need an ERP to use Concord?

No. Concord runs ordering, pricing, credit limits and tax on its own. If you use an ERP or finance system, Concord syncs orders, stock and customers with it through API-based integration, and the choice of system stays yours.
